This unique fundraising campaign takes place during Black Philanthropy Month and commemorates significant historical landmarks in the journey toward freedom for Black Americans. Remembering Historical Moments on August 28:
August 28 holds historical significance in the fight for equality and justice in America. Some of the critical events that took place on this day include:
- August 28, 1945: The integration of Major League Baseball began when President Branch Rickey met with Jackie Robinson, breaking the color barrier in the sport.
- August 28, 2005: Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, disproportionately affecting the city’s Black residents, highlighting the urgent need for support and resources in vulnerable communities.
