Celebrating Historical Moments and Strengthening Black Communities through #Give828 On August 28, 2023, Newtown Nation is proud to participate in #Give828, a national day of giving dedicated to supporting Black-led and Black-benefitting organizations. This unique fundraising campaign takes place during Black Philanthropy Month and commemorates significant historical landmarks in the journey towards freedom for Black Americans. Remembering Historic Moments on August 28: August 28 holds historical significance in the fight for equality and justice in America. Some of the critical events that took place on this day include: August 28, 1945: The integration of Major League Baseball began when President Branch Rickey met with Jackie Robinson, breaking the color barrier in the sport. August 28, 2005: Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, disproportionately affecting the city's Black residents, shining a light on the urgent need for support and resources in vulnerable communities. August 28, 2020: The world mourned the loss of Chadwick Boseman, known for his iconic portrayal of T'Challa in "Black Panther," highlighting the impact of his work on representation and empowerment. Get ready for the ultimate storytelling experience at the upcoming “TikTok Turn-Up at the Newtown Farmer’s Market!” 🥳 It's going to be a day filled with creativity, fun, and excitement, all centered around the amazing world of short-form video storytelling on social media platforms like TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook & more! 📱 Students and families will have the chance to show off their skills by creating their own short-form videos at various activities and stations, including an outdoor video studio with a giant green screen, studio lights, tripods, and WiFi. Activities include a TikTok Scavenger Hunt & Prop Station for dress-up! Let your imagination run wild and make some awesome videos! 🤳 At the end of the event, we'll all come together for a TikTok Film Festival & Award Ceremony. Attendees will get to watch all the amazing videos created during the event and even win awards for categories like the Funniest TikTok Video of the Day, Best Dancing TikTokker, Most Positive TikTok, and Best Collaboration Video.🏆 And, of course, no party is complete without delicious food!
